During their flight excercises, Rikeleth had been showing off and Wingleader & Weyrwoman Satya was on her last grain of patience. With only two days until threadfall, Satya was beginning to worry. Soon K'nel and Arumth would be flying beside her and the other golds against thread and she wanted to keep the constantly shifting Queen's Wing in line, but her dragon had other plans. Sweeping dramatically to the side and up, Rikeleth ignored Satya's suggestion of going low to show the others how best a queen should fly.

You're not as small as you used to be! Stop showing off like a proddy green!

They want to see me! Rikeleth retorted testily, completely unlike the kind and bubbly voice the dragon normally had. Satya's eyes drew below to the weyr mesa where male dragons were beginning to turn their heads to observe the flying queens.

Oh. In that case, land! They don't need to see me too!

But we're having so much fun!

"I said land! And tell the others they should go - today's practice is over!" Satya yelled over the wind, though she knew her dragon could hear her mental commands just fine. Annoyed, Satya gave Deniah and Eloise a hand signal and despite her argumentative attitude, Rikeleth obeyed her rider by tilting low and soaring quickly downward. Landing on the mesa, Satya climbed hastily from her gold dragon's back and immediately she noted the bright glow now enhancing the beauty of her dragon's hide.

"You always have to make things difficult for me, don't you?" Speaking in her most disapproving voice, Satya shook her head.

I shall make things difficult for everyone! Rikeleth bellowed as she rose to fly, her bulk keeping low above the males already beginning to gather. She was playful, but she was a queen. Everything was on her time, and everyone would soon know that! In the distance, Chiroth and Iridith blinked between, the two other golds leaving to avoid a possible fight due to the rising queen.

Do I shine bright enough? The question went out to all those males in the area, flirtatious and alluring, and Rikeleth's eyes began to swirl with reds and violets as she flew over the mesa top toward the pens. Satya stood to watch, ready for the insatiable lust and hunger that would soon hit her.

Tell me, suitors! How brightly do I shine? Rikeleth demanded as she bled her second beast and in a powerful leap rose once again into the air, challenging all those that were near.

Welcome to Rikeleth's second mating flight at Sirocco! Seeing as she's a rather large gold, this flight is open to Bronze & Brown dragons only.

Isaroth had been distracted since they had started their drills today. It wasn't typical for the brown to be so distracted, but distracted he was - more interested in watching the queen's wing than paying attention to what they were supposed to do. To the point A'lek felt the brown going to land. What are you doing?? We aren't done for the day, Isaroth! she frowned at her classmates that they were leaving behind, trying to mentally force Isaroth back into formation.

We are done. Everyone is done soon. The brown insisted forcefully. Landing, he turned back and huffed at his rider. You may wish to get down now. He offered, his deep voice kind. Blinking in surprise, A'lek did exactly that - jumping off of Isaroth and took off his flight straps quickly. Clearly there was something going on. And soon she had her answer in the form of Rikeleth's message being sent to her from her brown. Oh. Oh.

"No. No no no Isaroth. Shells and shards, you are too young. Absolutely not." She moved to stand in front of her brown, only to be hit with the dirt as he launched into the air once more.

We shall see if Rikeleth agrees with that. Perhaps if you ask nice, S'vel will fly you again. There was a dry, teasing heat to his tone as he flew away, towards the pens. He watched quietly as Rikeleth blooded her kills, doing similar to one of his own - it was good, he decided, to do this. He would need the energy for this. He launched into the air after the golden queen as she challenged them. As bright as the sun, Rikeleth. Brighter. How could we not be attracted by such beauty?

A'lek snorted, making her way to the flight rooms. Nosy flirt of a dragon.

For the last several days Zeveth had been watching Rikeleth closely, sticking near to her whenever he could as her hide grew slowly brighter. He didn't remember that he hadn't won her previous flight, he didn't remember any of her previous flights come to that, but the lively dragon would not her been perturbed even if he did; Rikeleth chose the best suitor for her every time, and how could there be any doubt that he would be the right one this time?

And of course Zeveth wasn't alone in eyeing Rikeleth, V'rin had noticed it during their drills that others seemed to be paying a lot of attention to the Queen's wing and shards he hoped she rose before the Threadfall not after. If she held off some fool might get themselves killed in a moment of ogling....

Ah, good.

As Rikeleth turned back to the mesa and signalled to the other gold riders Zeveth wheeled his large sinuous form to follow after her, excitement building in his hearts as he set down to allow his rider to dismount.
Harness please?
V'rin removed it with quick, practised movements and the bronze took a moment to turn his head and croon thanks before turning to Rikeleth who now all but glowed in the daylight.

Brighter with every turn Rikeleth!
he called, his bright voice bubbling with excitement and warmed with deep fondness as he sprang into the air.

V'rin smiled fondly as he watched his bronze go, the heat of lust and crowded thoughts that came with a flight would hit him soon enough but for now his head was clear. "Brighter every turn," he murmured to himself and then, still smiling, he turned and strode towards the beast pens for find his longtime weyrmate and best friend.

As Masalath landed Ilharen slid to the ground and mentally wrote the rest of the day off, smiling to himself as he freed his brown from his harness and reached up to stroke his face tenderly. "Good luck." Masalath adored the sensation of flights, the strain of his muscles and the glory of the glowing females and the ardour of his fellow suitors - it was all beautiful to him, to Ilharen too.

As Rikeleth blooded her kills - joined by a few males who also took the fancy - Ilharen turned quickly and headed in the direction of the flight rooms, he couldn't get to his Weyr from the upper caverns so he'd have to borrow one for himself in order to be alone.... Assuming H'win didn't appear? Ilharen paused, scanned the sky for the familiar shape of Beramoth and then the mesa top for H'win. Would he join him? Was it even a good idea?... Perhaps it was best if he kept on towards the flight rooms, he'd be sure to get one then and H'win would know he'd gone that way if he did want to follow.

Rikeleth, you shine bright as a forge! Masalath called as he joined the massing males. Blazing with passion, and forging strength by your touch.

There was not much which roused Kronoth from his lounging, but he could not resist the call of a gold ready to rise. He had been entirely unconcerned earlier, as the golds were practicing their drills--he dozed, mainly, and said nothing to his rider but, Rikeleth glows today.

That was an odd enough comment that S'ren looked up from mending his straps with a frown, but as Kronoth had slipped back into sleep, he simply shrugged and got back to work. There was an itch under his skin, grounded as he was due to injury--the mending was small enough that he could do it without pulling much at the Threadscore wound still fresh on his shoulder.

But then there was a cry, and Kronoth was standing, stretching each limb with careful consideration. His eyes were turned to the sky, and S'ren felt a shuddering lust begin to take hold low in his belly, and he understood the itching now.

Oh, he thought. Well.

Kronoth leapt from his ledge with an easy grace--he was all lean muscle and broad wings, and he flew well. Kronoth knew his own strengths.

S'ren took a deep breath and set aside the riding leathers. He thought he'd begin to make his way down toward the flight rooms, and perhaps find a partner to spend the flight with, but his mind was more and more with Kronoth as his dragon took to the sky.

Ah, Rikeleth, Kronoth said, voice low and gravelly. You outshine the sun!

My, how brightly Rikeleth shines today, Muninnth commented. The large brown was lounging about, more than enjoying the amount of sunshine his ledge got during the day. As the brown moved his tail lazily from side to side, all signs certainly pointed to the brown having absolutely no intentions of ever moving from his spot.

It was the mischief in Muninnth's tone that made Sh'mil look up from the straps he had been mending. He could feel his dragon's mind focusing on the object of his subtle attention, and he couldn't resist the urge to abandon his task and get up to see exactly how bright the senior queen was.

Muninnth's tail stopped lashing about the instant Sh'mil put a hand on his brown's eyeridge and began scratching. She does indeed shine very brightly, he mused, a smile starting to form on his face. The pair watched Rikeleth's antics for a moment before Sh'mil climbed up onto Muninnth's back. His brown was going to chase - he could tell that much already - and he needed a quick ride before the brown took off in pursuit.

This time he didn't want to go to the flight rooms and 'catch' someone else (or be caught by someone else, as the case had been with Sapphire). This time, he had a very specific someone in mind. A quick back and forth between Muninnth and Minith confirmed Sh'mil's welcome and they were off, landing a mere minute later at their destination.

None too soon, either! Just as Sh'mil dismounted Rikeleth threw out her challenge and took to the air. Muninnth bugled his response and leapt after her, and Sh'mil half stumbled-half ran his way into Caleen's weyr as a wave of lust from his dragon crashed into him and threatened to drown him.

You are positively breathtaking, Rikeleth, Muninnth called, laughter and joy and an invitation to come play in the brown's tone. And I must say, I have never been so happy to be breathless, nor so lucky, for I have never before seen a dragon as beautiful as you.

The first sign that something was up was, naturally, Voroth. R'sol had been shut away in his office, neck-deep in paperwork, when an errant thought from his brown crossed his mind. -glowing...

R'sol looked up, his eyes going unfocused as he reached out to his brown. Looking through Voroth's eyes he could see quite plainly that Rikeleth looked brilliant against the sky, could see how she played and danced through the air during what should have been a regimented drill. The assistant weyrlingmaster had a thought that Satya, no doubt, would be displeased over her queen's antics!

Then he 'watched' as Rikeleth landed, and in that moment, he stood. Voroth's attention was laser-focused on the glowing queen now, and it was more than obvious what the brown's intentions were. No sooner had R'sol sighed and started for his office door than Rikeleth took to the skies once more, and Voroth went right along with her.

The idea of spending the flight shut up in his office was beyond unpalatable. Likewise he had no wish to hole up somewhere else or with some random rider. There was no one else he wanted to spend this flight, and hopefully its aftermath, with. Veria. The lust roiling through him courtesy of Voroth made it difficult to think, but he knew that much. Now all he had to do was find her.

There is nothing on Pern that could outshine you today, Rikeleth. Not even Rukbat's light rivals yours! Voroth called, roaring his acceptance of her challenge.

You shine, dearest Rikeleth, with such a beauty and light as to make the sun itself hide in shame. Every other creature pales in comparison. I only wish that you will allow me to bask in your light a while. Mitoth responded, his voice dark and deep and cool. The bronze had launched himself after in short order after Rikeleth.

H'ain had felt his bronze's piqued interest when Rikeleth was still drilling. But now he could feel the lust threatening to build and hit him - experience ensured he was able to keep it under control, making his way towards the flight rooms.

T'len, who had almost been knocked flat by his dragon as he wheeled around, laughed in amused incredulity and shook his head. "I never would have guessed!" he called as the muscular brown swooped across the mesa to alight near the feeding pens, waiting for the gold's call to chase her into the sky.

Rikeleth, you shine with more beauty than any queen ever shelled! Tevith bugled, raising his head proudly as he took in the blooding gold, and his competition too. But what were they, poor drab things, compared to Tevith? It was only right that they should chase glorious Rikeleth, but she would choose beauty and strength to match her own and he was the only one here who would not be utterly eclipsed in her presence.

When the large gold sprang into the air Tevith was quick to follow her with a powerful leap of his own, and a deep resonating bugle which announced his desire for the glowing female and his challenge to the other males around him.

W'den stared up at the glowing Gold, Rikeleth he had to admit was indeed a stunning creature.

"She is a sight to see..." said Henth who still stood beside him as they watched Rikeleth blood her kills and sent out her challenge to all the watching males.

W'den could feel his dragons growing interested but Henth wasn't quite ready to join in the fray, instead, the calm Brown settled his thoughts and took a good look at the competition, trying to sense where he had the best advantage and thus the best chance at winning Rikeleth.

The earthy Brown was smart enough to know that his best chance was to plan his approach and try and work the moment to his best advantage. It was then that Rikeleth launched herself into the air, her call ringing through the air and her glow brighter than ever. The time of thought was over as the flight lust washed through both rider and dragon.

With an answering burgle Henth launched himself into the air, calling out to Rikeleth, "Rikeleth, your glow outshines the sun, your beauty puts the flowers and all the jewels of this world to shame and your grace makes even the most wonderous birds hang their heads in shame as you out grace them all!

And with that he was in the air, wings beating fast to catch up to the glowing gold.

"Good flying!" W'den sent to his dragon as he turned and headed carefully to the Flight Rooms

The large golden queen dragon rose higher and higher and she turned her wedge-shaped head to glance beyond her wings to peer with eyes whirling bright violet at her suitors. There was a flash of red that broke the purple and she bellowed out another challenge to the weyr, her mind sending waves of desire out. She was pleased with what she saw!

Though the dragons were flying higher and higher, Satya felt the lusty rage of her dragon as if she were there, in the sky with her. Yet the Weyrwoman could still tell she stood with her head high and her chest forward as the wave of lust crashed into her. She was like a cliff and she encouraged the tidal wave of a dragon farther, wanting to feel more. The longer the flight the stronger the clutch! Go. Go! Satya spotted V'rin as he strode near her and an unlikely but dashing smile broke her lips and though she did not move her feet, the goldrider reached her arm out for him. Intoxicated by her queen's ardor, Satya beckoned V'rin closer to her in a very rare display of flirtation and her fingers curled inward on her outstretched hand.

With her rider's encouragement and the calls of her chasers giving her confidence, Rikeleth sniffed and flicked her tail. Her glowing hide glistened in the fading afternoon light and her beauty challenged that of the setting sun.

If I am as bright as the sun, and your breaths so taken, why are you all so close? She teased her suitors, her voice coy and with a great sweeping of her wings Rikeleth soared away from the weyr toward the setting sun to fly farther ahead. She challenged the males that chased her to push their might!

If I am as bright and beautiful as the sun, what then must the one that catches me be? Every jewel needs a proper setting! Her voice was amorous now. Rikeleth wanted her suitors to know she wanted them too! Her mind brushed out to encourage Isaroth and Henth and then swept and pressed in on Kronoth and Masalath. Brushing tenderly against Muninnth and Voroth before sparking and lighting out to Mitoth and Zeveth and to the others who had yet to voice their portion of the song.

Tell me! Which of you would compliment me best?

Ah....

Yes, there it was.

V'rin wasn't accustomed to feeling lust of any kind and so when Zeveth gave chase - and he did not do so often - it was an interesting experience. Normal lust was less distracting than flight lust (or it usually was, or so he was reliably informed) but it still seemed very puzzling, and more than a little bit amusing too that otherwise sensible people could be so very diverted by a desire to tumble in the furs with one another. Right now however, reaching out to Satya in return and returning her smile with a heated look of his own, V'rin counted himself among such otherwise sensible people.

"Rikeleth looks in fine form, she will do Sirocco proud," he murmured softly as he stepped close to his weyrmate, one hand seeking hers and the other drifting to her waist.

Every jewel its setting, and every sun her worlds!
Zeveth called as he ascended after the gold with powerful beats of his wide wings, his voice fizzing and popping brighter and brighter as his excitement for the chase built.
I am your constant satellite Rikeleth, drawn in by the gravity of your wonder! Bid me to spin on my axis, I'll do my best!

Do not speak of settings, beautiful Rikeleth, for a setting only serves to hold a jewel in place, to make sure the jewel cannot do what it wants. A jewel that has been set is not free! Muninnth’s tone sounded aggrieved - aggrieved at the thought of the golden queen in front of them not being able to do what she wanted, when she wanted.

If you speak of the sun, though, and of lights, Muninnth called slyly. Every light casts a shadow, lovely Rikeleth. The brighter the light, the darker the shadow, and you cannot have one without the other.

The brown stretched his wings and arched his neck, the light bouncing off his hide only serving to emphasize how dark he was. Was Muninnth not the perfect shade to play shadow to the brightest queen at Sirocco? A shadow does not hold you down, but goes with you where you will - it worships you as you deserve, not by keeping you in place, but by emphasizing your brightness. I would do that, and more, for you, gladly!

Why do we follow so close? Dear Rikeleth, how could we not? Such a light as yours is like the first peak of the sun after a long rainfall, like the first hints of spring after a long winter in the north. They weren't things Mitoth himself remembered, but H'ain did, and that was what mattered.

Ah, but the proper setting enhances the jewel, strengthens it. Mitoth commented. His age, his rider against the back of his mind ensured he paced himself - these young ones might have speed, but he had endurance and that would be what Rikeleth needed in the end. And Rikeleth you are such a jewel as to deserve the best setting. One that lifts and strengthens. Allow me to fly beside you, and I shall show you what such a setting can do, the worshipful gazes such a pairing of gem and setting can draw.

Much of Isaroth's focus went to his flight, to pacing himself while also keeping up with the others. His deep, smoky voice reached out to Rikeleth, however at last. The one that flies beside you cannot be the shadow, so far below, nor a world - one of many. No, the one worthy of being beside you must be a sun in their own right, or the moon. Equal and different. One so complimentary as to strengthen, but never steal your light.

Who was worthy of her? Ah, all the others thought so highly of themselves to claim their worthiness to fly at her side. How could I ever deign to tell you what is worthy to bask in your light? To do so would be such ego. But to give me a chance to fly within your light for just a bit longer would be an honor beyond words.

The great dark brown snorted at the flirtatious tone and at the teasing that Rikeleth was doing.

Using every bit of his broad wingspan to push himself forward rather than simply flying faster, Henth sucked in great lungfuls of air, keeping his breathing as steady as possible in order to keep up but not overextend his strength as he had a feeling that this was going to be a long flight and he planned to be in it until the very last moment.

"Who would be more worthy Rikeleth, than the one who knows and celebrates your beauty, intelligence and grace that you embody and wishes nothing more than to breeze beneath your mighty wings, the light upon your glowing scales and the bringer of joy to your great heart!"

Listening to his dragon W'den smiled as he settled himself on a chair, sketchbook open on his lap, the whole of his attention on sketching a flower that he had seen the day before, growing in a small shaded crack in the rocks of the Mesa.

"You are doing well Henth! Just keep steady and let the younger ones fly themselves to exhaustion!" He encouraged his dragon.

Compliment or complement? Masalath asked with a feeling of laughter, his mind whirling bright with all the colour and energy of a gather in full swing as he followed straight and true after Rikeleth. I will glady do both if you'll have me Rikeleth, but how can I best compliment I wonder? You have so many suitors, each as adoring as the last, as I am too! It was wonderful, each male giving his all to prove he had the strength and the endurance and the spark she sought to pass onto her children. How could he say anything that hadn't been said already?

Truth is beauty, isn't that what the Harpers say? Masalath exclaimed suddenly as the thought popped into his mind. Then let me show you my truth Rikeleth! He had no proper words to tell the rising gold how bright she was, to compliment her as she deserved and so he shared with her the image of herself rising high and bright and powerful and glorious above him, and the image was coloured with his ardour and his thrill at this wonderful chase.

The glowing golden queen dragon rose still higher. She was like the sun, but as it was setting she felt brighter more beautiful than the burning star as it faded slowly beyond dusk and into the first pale purple sky of night. Rikeleth did not fade, her great wings bore her father into the darkening sky, the last feeble rays of the sun still glittering off of her glowing hide as if she were the most precious of gems with its own inner light.

Again Rikeleth twisted in the air to view those that chased. She adored them the way any star would adore its satellites, the way a gemmed ruby broach adores the gold it is set in, but instinctively she knew she could not have them all and she began to start her choosing.

Spin for me! Be my shadow! Rikeleth cooed, encouraging Zeveth and Muninnth forward.

The gold was a hulking mass of a dragon, large and bulky, but she had practiced long, and the desire that flowed through her gave her vigor like a young dragon once again, so, she spun too, daring those she reached out to come closer. Her mind grew distant to Mitoth and Isaroth, their words and performance, though beautiful and valiant, did not please her as the others did.

Down below, far back at the weyr and on the ground, Satya gasped as her dragon suddenly fell in a showy display from her upward flight. She was aware that V'rin had finally reached her, his murmuring sinking into her consciousness past the haze of lust from her dragon. Blinking as if she were waking, Satya tried to concentrate so that she could come down momentarily back to her senses. The weyrwoman's expression softened and she leaned into her weyrmate's touch.

"What if we wanted to make you proud?" There was no denying the sensitivity nor the uncharacteristic flirtation in her voice as Satya's expression softened and she reached up to wrap her arms around V'rin. She shook herself though, realizing they were still atop the weyrbowl.

"She's choosing soon... let us go." Breaking away from the tantalizing touch, Satya pulled herself from V'rin and strode quickly toward the upper caverns.

Rikeleth, still in her breathtaking fall, began to spin. It was not a fast spin, but an elaborate sweeping turn in the air, her wings pulling in as she fell and the queen used gravity to propel her nosedive. As she whisked by her pursuers her eyes flashing coyly.

Then show me! The queen encouraged Masalath and Kronoth just before throwing her wings out to catch herself. She rose slowly and beat her wings hard, but not so hard as to get too far away, for she still wanted to see them, though her eyes no longer lingered on Henth, Voroth or Tevith, for she was drawn elsewhere, distracted by so many fine chasers!
