The first thing that Sarai registered as she drifted back towards consciousness was that she was warm. Very warm. The second thing that registered was the fact that there was an arm draped over her side, and someone was pressed against her back. The third, and perhaps the most welcome thing, was that Aureth had risen, Vath had won, and Sarai had not streaked through the lower caverns this time.

Life was about the little things, after all.

Her still partially asleep mind told her that if Vath had won, and Aureth was feeling smug and still curled up with the bronze, the warm body behind hers must belong to L'kin. That particular revelation wasn't as weird or as she might have originally thought it would be, and because of that, she didn't move.

Laying there, almost too warm and content, she could let her mind and body wake up as slowly as she wanted to. L'kin was a friend, someone she knew and had been spending a decent amount of time with lately. This wasn't like Aureth's last flight, when she had woken up between Caleen, the woman she'd loved for turns, and H'win, the man Caleen was in love with. That particular awkward situation had necessitated a quick wake up and quick thinking.

This situation required neither of those things, so until L'kin woke up, Sarai was just content to lay there for a while.

L'kin was very comfortable. He could sense Vath's smug sense of pleasure and hid a grin in his pillow. When Aureth had risen, Vath could not resist the desire to chase, and he'd flown very well indeed. His dragon's prowess pleased him nearly as much as it pleased Vath himself.

Sarai was warm against him, and it left L'kin feeling surprisingly content. He was pleased to have spent Aureth's flight with her and had enjoyed himself immensely. He shifted slightly, coming more awake with every moment, and his arm tightened minutely against Sarai's waist.

It was warm and quiet, and for once L'kin did not feel as if he had anywhere to be. It was a nice thought, that he could just lounge here in her weyr for as long as Sarai would let him. Vath, he knew, would be very reluctant indeed to leave Aureth's ledge. Vath's sleepy agreement whispered across his mind, and L'kin smiled again.

Eventually, he realized that Sarai was awake, and he turned his head to look at her and the way her dark hair was splayed around. "Hello," he said to her, voice low and husky with sleep. "A good flight, hm?" He couldn't help chuckling; he was biased.

But it had been a good flight, and a good win, and L'kin was pleased with the outcome.

Still as everything was - still as they were being - that minute tightening of L'kin's arm was felt immediately. He must be awake then too, and with that realization Sarai sighed softly and turned to face him. She moved slowly and carefully so that she didn't have to roll away from him and then roll back. Her hair was shoved out of her way with a very soft curse, and then she looked at him.

The smile on his face brought one out on her own even as her eyes blinked shut and stuck that way for a moment before she could bring herself to open them again. "Pleased with yourselves, are you?" she murmured, the edges of her voice still rough with sleep while the rest of her tone was soft with amusement. Sarai could feel Aureth's own pleasure at this arrangement, sleepy though the green was.

Laying as they were, curled up together as they were, Sarai had the odd thought that she would have no problem drifting off to sleep. Normally once she was awake she was awake but not now. That was dangerous. The thought filtered through her brain and left again - she was too content to hold onto it at the moment.

"It was a good flight," she added. Her eyes were warm with sleep and good humor, not a trace of their normal seriousness to be seen. "Aureth, obviously, is more than pleased that Vath chased this time." Sarai laughed softly and let her eyes drop shut again. Just for a moment - she wasn't falling back asleep, she was just resting.

L'kin had to laugh. "Vath does love a good flight. And Aureth gave him a run for his money; he enjoys the chase." And the aftermath too, but then again--so did L'kin. Dragon flights did make his blood sing.

He laughed a little more. "He likes to show off sometimes," L'kin added, grinning down at Sarai. He should get up, perhaps, but he could sense Vath sleepy-satisfied in the back of his mind, and L'kin knew he wasn't planning on going anywhere.

The thought of suggesting they go back to sleep was at the forefront of L'kin's mind--at least until he was interrupted by the appearance of Lady hovering above the bed, chattering and scolding them. She landed heavily upon L'kin's chest and thrust her muzzle at him.

L'kin groaned, tossing his arm up to cover his eyes. She was not hungry, or itchy, but L'kin knew what she wanted.

"I've missed bath time," he said wryly. "She likes to float." She followed him to the bathing pools whenever he went, no matter whether she needed tending to or not. But L'kin did not want to move, and he stayed where he was even as Lady continued to grumble.

Whatever response Sarai would have had to L'kin's comments about the flight were lost to the desire to go back to sleep. She didn't need a suggestion - she would have been more than content to just drift back off, curled up contently next to someone else for a while.

The arrival of Lady changed all of that. The gold's scolding woke Queenie, who had made a nest out of their discarded clothing and had been sleeping peacefully. She added her scolding to her dam's and hopped up on the bed. She wanted a bath too!

"Queenie does too," Sarai muttered, finally giving up the dream of going back to sleep. Her firelizard was nudging at her hands, as if that would make her get up faster! The greenrider cracked one eye open and looked at the chittering firelizards for a moment before she opened her other eye and looked at L'kin.

She considered her bedmate for a long, quiet moment. Sarai had absolutely no desire to get up either but she knew their firelizards weren't going to take no for an answer. Golds tended to get what they wanted, no matter their size. This warm, cozy moment was slipping away from them fast, and Sarai found herself regretting that.

So she smiled a bit, moved forward, and kissed him. She lingered over it for a minute because she felt like it, and then sat up and stretched. "Alright. Let's go bathe these two," she said, scooping Queenie up and standing. Her gold cheeped and chattered, clearly happy with this development, while Sarai padded over to a wardrobe against the wall to grab fresh clothes.

They were friends already so she didn't think anything of assuming they'd go bathe the golds together. "We could do with a bath too. If you want to come with me, that is," she added, looking at him curiously over her shoulder.

L'kin couldn't help watching Sarai appreciatively as she padded across the room to her wardrobe. He was still smiling faintly from the gentle kiss she'd given him, and his smile only widened as she turned to look at him again.

"I would be delighted," he said with a laugh. He deposited Lady unceremoniously onto the bed and swung his legs over the side to stand. He stretched, sighing happily as he felt some of the tension in his muscles release. "Then perhaps we could find ourselves some breakfast."

He reached for his clothes, unworried about pulling what he'd worn earlier back on. They could always stop at his own weyr before they made their way to the dining hall. L'kin scooped Lady up next and reached out his mind to Peekaboo, who was still asleep in his own bed. It took only a moment for the brown to appear and land heavily onto his shoulders.

"Ready to go?" he asked Sarai. His arms were full of Lady as he walked over to her, and he shifted the fire lizard to his other arm so that he could offer her the other. He did not wish to part from Sarai's company just now, and was glad that they would still have the rest of the morning to spend with one another. It eased his heart in a way it hadn't been since he'd parted from Ari. He offered Sarai another smile.

Sarai returned L'kin's appreciative look when he got up out of the bed and stretched. He was rather good-looking, wasn't he? And, it seemed, hers for the morning. Sarai didn't mind that one bit - quite the opposite, actually - and there was a little spring in her movements as she pulled her robe on and belted it securely around her waist. She didn't mind flashing L'kin, but she did mind flashing the rest of the Weyr.

"I didn't streak through the dining hall this time," she said, sounding more than pleased. He had mentioned food though, and Sarai gave a cheerful enough nod in agreement. Food was always a welcome thing after a long, satisfying flight. Queenie cheeped happily on her shoulder, already thinking about sponging food off of Sarai and L'kin. Surely they would be distracted enough with one another that they wouldn't notice a little thievery?

Her fresh clothes were slipped neatly into a little carry-bag and tossed over her shoulder. Sarai clearly hadn't been expecting L'kin to offer her an arm, as she looked at him with surprise for a moment before her gaze warmed with pleasure. "Yes," she said, slipping her arm through his and heading for the door.

"I have soapsand and oil in here," she told him, patting the bag that hung at her hip. Queenie protested the movement and wrapped herself around Sarai's neck, as that was a much more stable perch. "There's also some scented oil, if Lady wants to try it. Tansy taught me how to make it, and it smells lovely."

L'kin laughed. He'd heard about that happening during Aureth's last flight, and he knew Sarai well enough to know that she'd be mortified if it happened again. "I'm glad we both found our way here," he told her, grinning.

"Appreciate that," he added as they walked. "I'm sure Lady would love the chance to try the oil, too. Tansy's mentioned Sitath enjoying the fine scents, and Lady likely would too." Tansy flew in his wing, so he knew her reasonably well, even if she had been grounded due to her pregnancy.

Eventually, they reached the bathing pools, and Lady was happy to dive from L'kin's arms and into the water. "Well done," he told her with an easy smile. Lady chirped, preening, and paddled around the pool till while L'kin shed his clothes.

"Sometimes I wonder if they're part shipfish," he said companionably as Peekaboo followed suit and lowered himself into the water. "It's almost impossible to convince them to leave again once they've got it into their minds to swim."

It wasn't much longer before L'kin was lowering himself down too, a pleased sigh escaping him. He smiled up at Sarai again, happy to have her company. "I think the only think that'll get them out again, half the time, is the prospect of a meal."

Lady cheeped again, swimming her way toward L'kin and clinging to his arms when he reached out for her. She especially enjoyed the water if all she had to do was float. L'kin enjoyed it too--her soft crooning never failed to relax him.

"There are few things better after a good flight," he said, leaning back against the edge of the pool, "than a good soak and a hot meal."

L'kin's words and easy grin made Sarai blink. Normally the wingleader looked so serious and stoic, and that grin... "I am too," she found herself saying back, her own smile lighting up her face. She hadn't minded waking up with Caleen and H'win after Aureth's last flight, but there had been an element of sadness as well as embarrassment there that she hadn't let either of the blueriders know about.

Waking up next to L'kin, however...

"Queenie likes it quite a bit, though shockingly enough Aureth prefers the non-scented oil." Sarai snorted softly and shrugged. The larger green liking normal oil was fine with her - it meant she didn't have to try and make so much of the scented stuff.

Once they got to the bathing pools Queenie hopped down and made her way to the edge of the pool, though she didn't just dive in like Lady had. Instead she inspected the water for a moment before carefully easing her way in, chirping happily all the while. "Food will get me out of the water too," she told him, laughing as she shed her robe and climbed into the pool.

The heat of the water seeped into her muscles and she sighed softly, leaning her head back against the lip of the pool. Sarai watched as Lady paddled her way to L'kin and clung to him. Queenie seemed content to swim herself in circles, and Sarai was content to let her do it.

L'kin, however, looked much too relaxed. Though she was normally a serious person at heart there were times when the spirit of mischief took hold of her. This seemed to be one of those times, because without blinking she sent a wave of water towards him. She did her best to aim it so that it wouldn't hit Lady, though it would give her some fun waves to float on!

"You're so right," she said blandly, giving him her best serious look. "A relaxing bath and a hot meal, nothing better."
