Down the northern hallway of the handlers barracks sit the wherling barracks. The first area consists of a large room taken up mostly by a massive furnace, which is lit only when there are wher eggs to warm. Beyond the hearth room, the wherling barracks are one big room filled with sandy wallows about ten feet in diameter. Each wallow is accompanied by a cot and a chest. Where the hearth room and the barracks meet, the wherlingmaster's office sits so that when he has the door open, he can see every wherling who comes and goes.

The wherhandler quarters are arranged around a pair of perpendicular hallways, which the exit to the base of the mesa in the east, the dining hall to the south, the mines to the west, and the wher bathing pools and wherling barracks to the north. Each wher den consists of a large room with a sandy wallow, and a smaller room to serve as the handler's sleeping area. The main room can be accessed from the hallways by either a human-sized door or a much larger wher gate. An unfinished stairway leads up to a blank wall, where future expansion may occur. The bathing cavern consists of a large pool for up to three adult whers at a time, a small deep pool with carved seats for human, and a shallow pool for wherlings.
