The end of the dry season was upon them, but it was far too hot to be on the mesa during the day. Assistant Candidatemaster Baru had directed all of the candidates to the mines after Candidatemater Cicely procured them permission to use the abandoned section of the mines. Today, Baru lead the candidates through the rough dark hallways. The shafts were safe and cool, a bit dusty of course, but nothing like the scorching sand-blasted heat above them.

Once all of the candidates filed in, Baru opened a glowbasket to reveal a hallway wide enough to fit two whers abreast and about ten dragonlengths long. She motioned for the candidates to stop near a pile of firestone sacks in one of the side rooms and she set the glowbasket down in the middle of the hallway. She picked up a second basket and began walking. Baru's quick steps could be heard echoing in the abandoned shaft, her boot heels slapping against the stone beneath her feet. She placed the glowbasket at the end of the hall, again in the middle, and walked back to the waiting candidates.

"You'll be racing today. Assistant Candidatmaster J'ska and I will mark the winners. After your warm-up, you'll have to run with firesacks. I hope you all did your morning stretches." Baru spoke with her usual clipped teasing voice and she motioned down at the glowbasket.

"You have to run around the baskets, if you bump into them you'll be disqualified." She said, her voice clear and loud in the quiet of the mines. The miners had moved on from this place, leaving it dark and empty, but it was cool.

"Go ahead, do a few laps as a warm up!" Baru commanded and she waved them all away and pointed down the hall.

OOC: Welcome to the lesson! Nobody is required to participate, but I've tagged all active candidates in case you would like to!

We'll have a round of easy jogging where your candidates can join the lesson and chatter at one another. Your candidates may also ask the Candidatemasters questions regarding good stretches to do before a run, or ask them for help on how to best carry the sacks etc.

Once everyone gets posted, there will be another post from Candidatemasters to start the race. We will roll to determine winners. Good luck!

Jana frowned in the dim light in the caves. She wasn't sold on the whole 'going to the mines' thing at first, for she knew Baru to be the teasing type, but when she saw the firestone sacks, things began to align in a way that didn't spell manual labor. Still suspecting some hidden motive from Baru, Jana shrugged and began to jog down the hallway. She would rather run than pack firestone sacks!

"At least, it is nicer down here." She said, to no one in particular about the coolness they found. It was so hot on the mesa in the sun, and they didn't have the luxury to escape to the oasis and coast the way the dragonriders could! Maybe they would get to use this portion of the weyr more often, now that the miners had practically abandoned half of their old mining tunnels.

Picking a leisurely pace Jana moved her way down the hall, careful to look warily into the shadows for any uneven parts of the floor that might trip her up.

Well, he certainly hadn't expected that his first lesson at the weyr would involve something he was used to.... physical labor inside a mine. He briefly wondered if there was some practical joke being played before one of the other candidates started off down the tunnel.

A slight shrug and he decided he had better warm up, doing a few stretches he'd been taught by one of the more experienced miners back in opal. Nothing worse than pulling a muscle when you needed to move. Being one of the taller candidates there, he knew he already stood out, so he made his mind up that he was going to just pace himself, no point in rushing and showing off amongst the group.

As he started after Jana, he felt more like he was at home than in some strange weyr, having only arrived last night. Still, he was wary about what the instructor might be planning.

An uneven part in the floor made him stumble slightly, the young man shaking his head and trying to focus on the route they'd be taking. His eyes were used to the dimness of the mines, but the tunnels here were different, and he didn't want to disgrace himself by being kicked out. Though he wouldn't mind if there was someone else to talk to while he warmed up.

"Way, way nicer," Lorux agreed with Jana with a grin as he started his warm-up jog. "I swear you could cook an egg on the mesa right now, probably sausages to go with it and all." He'd lived here for about three turns now and he was pretty used to the weather, and that meant being used to avoiding going outside in the middle of the day in the heart of the dry season. Only reason to be out in that mess was riders against the Thread, far as he saw it anyway.

As he headed towards the end of the tunnel and the first loop around the basket Lorux turned to a tall young man jogging nearby. "It's Jaros right?" he was pretty sure that was what he'd been introduced as. "I'm Lorux, nice to meet you!"

A race through the dim, abandoned mines? No, this didn't sound like a good way for someone to get injured at all! Soleil fought the urge to roll her eyes as she did a couple more stretches. Two glowbaskets didn't exactly light the cavern up but then, she assumed, that was the point. She didn't plan on arguing the matter in any case .- running in the cool cavern was much better than running up in the sunlight, as Jana and Lorux had already pointed out.

Speaking of Lorux - it looked like he was already making friends with one of the new candidates. Soleil snorted almost inaudibly at the gregariousness of her fellow candidate before she started off down the hall, her pace loping and easy. This was just a warm up, so she would treat it as such. She needed to save her energy for the real race to come.

Oh good. An exercise that was physically demanding. That was something that was definitely not Rae’s favorite thing. He preferred the ones where he could work with his hands and where his more precise nature could come in handy. Racing around a mine used neither of those skills.

A few candidates took off, ready and eager. Rae hung back a little. He still jogged, but only just. In fact one could almost argue that it was more of a fast, bouncy walk. He didn’t really care. Matter of fact, he almost had half a mind to purposely knock over one of the glow baskets to be disqualified. He was many things, but competitive in physical activities was not one of them.

He grinned as Lorux started chatting with another candidate. That was so like him. For himself, he hung back a bit. He’d gladly converse with anyone else who decided to “jog”, but he wasn’t going to purposely hold them back by causing them to slow their pace for a chat.

Mikal had... admittedly never been the most sociable of people. When forced to actively interact with people in a way that didn't involve pushing them around... well, he wasn't precisely sociable. He wasn't gregarious in the same way Lorux was. He watched the other boy chatting up a new candidate, and made a bit of a face.

So rather than speak to the others, he started to jog. It was easy, something he was familiar with. His father had insisted on physical fitness when he had been home. In fact, the man had been the one to teach him to fight. Not that it got use here in the weyr - other than the occasional spar with guards, who promptly tried to get him to apprentice with them.

Raelero got a glance and a frown - he wasn't exactly doing a good job warming up. "If you're going to warm up, you need to do it properly." He told the other boy. "You race when you don't warm up properly you'll end up with your muscles killing you later."

The mines were one part of the Weyr that Veres hadn't ever considered exploring Not because she had thought them off limits, even though part of her had and she had wanted nothing to take away her chance at getting a dragon, but more because she had felt it best to stay out of the way of those that worked down here. The risk involved with mining would never have dissuaded her, but the fact that she might possibly have done something to harm someone unintentionally that did belong there was enough of a deterrent on its own. Having reached the age where she could actually join her peers in candidacy she had done so at the first opportunity. And now she found herself in the one area she had actually avoided going. She listened carefully to the instructions. Okay a race, she could do that, she had no objection to a good run though she knew it was unlikely that she'd be the fastest.

For warm up she stood for a few moments doing simple stretches before beginning her laps. The pace she set herself was mild, enough to raise the heartrate a bit but not something that she couldn't maintain for some time. She was already trim, exercise wasn't something she avoided as she knew that if she wanted to be a rider she'd need to stay fit she just didn't do it all the time. She saw others chatting as the moved, Lorux with the new guy and Mikal with Raelero, but she wanted to make sure to get at least one lap in before dividing her attention that way to learn the terrain. She did however agree with the comment Jana made, it was cooler and if they were going to run that was a boon.

Jaros was surprised when of the other candidates decided to jog alongside, introducing himself as Lorux. Though it was rather nice someone had already decided to greet him, he was a little unsure of himself still.

"Pleased to meet you Lorux." He smiled, navigating around the glowbasket before jogging alongside the other candidate as he avoided a rough patch on the ground. The mine shaft was rather smooth, but there were still the odd hazard around for people being careless. "I feel like I have a lot to learn in this place, though its certainly a lot cooler than Opal." He admitted, rather pleased with the thought he might be able to look around a bit later.

His eyes, more adjusted to the darkness than others, let him focus on some of the other candidates. He'd have to try get to know his peers if he wanted to fit in. He stopped for a moment in a space between glowbaskets, noticing several large stones that could easily cause someone to throw an ankle if left and swiftly edged them out of the way before continuing on alongside lorux.

"I bet you could - If I was willing - to risk that - heat, I would - say we could test it!" there was a laugh to Jana's voice even as she huffed her reply to Lorux between her jogging breaths. They were warming up, but it didn't mean they still couldn't have some conversation so she slowed her jog to be more in pace with Lorux and Jaros.

"Hello, Jaros!" Jana said pleasantly, taking a deep breath to introduce herself.

"Jana!" she said, and offered a wave, her words still clipping awkwardly with her efforts to breathe, warm up and watch the ground for unevenness or stones.

"Hey - that was really nice of you." Jana observed as Jaros moved some of the stones out of the way and she grinned at him and jogged around the stones. Despite the coolness of the mines, Jana found herself warming up quite easily and sweat already covering her brow.

"Veres, Igen wasn't - this -hot, was it?" There was a curious if complaining quality to Jana's voice as she asked, wondering about the northern desert and how it compared to Sirocco's wild wastes.

Rae gave MIKAL a crooked grin and continued at his lazy pace. It was clear from the other candidate's words, actions, and build that he was one who exercised often. The complete opposite of himself.

"My muscles will kill me afterwards no matter what," he told him as he continued to jog-walk. "Simply because I don't tend to do this often at all. I also don't plan to participate much in the whole racing bit. I don't have speed or muscle mass enough to be competition for anyone." He was all for a little competitive fun, but if he wasn't even going to be competition, there was no reason to tire himself out. He'd get the task done, but he wouldn't stress about being the first one to do it. Someone had to come in last, and in this case, he didn't care too much if it was him.

And currently, it did, indeed, look like he was going to be that person coming in last. And they were still just warming up. Oh well. He really didn't care much if he did finish behind everyone else. Physical exercises just weren't his thing. Now, when they had to do something with their hands, then he would be there, ready and willing to be first.

"Maybe another day," Lorux suggested to Jana with a grin, "or maybe we can deputise firelizards to do it for us! They love the sunshine." His own four had decided not to come down into the dark cool mines with him, not when there was lovely sunshine to bask in.

"You too," Lorux replied cheerfully as Jaros stopped to move the rock out of the way, and he nodded along with Jana's praise. "Be no good if somebody twisted their ankle on that! And yeah, you'll have loads to learn but so does everyone when they first arrive; stick with us and we'll show you the ropes, you'll be fine." Mikal was probably less likely to mess with him than some other newbie but it was still worth keeping an eye on the nasty bully until Jaros had settled in and made friends properly.

Jaros nods his head in acknowledgement to Jana as he rejoins the group jogging. "Its not really anything, we learned in the mines to look out for each other, so everyone would watch out for any issues." He said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

He jogged alongside the group, silent for a moment as they talked about firelizards. Something that was severely lacking in his home hold. "Are firelizard pets normal here? We didn't have many around opal as the dust from the mines made them ill." He asked, rather curious, having only seen one belonging to Ilharen on the way in.

Lorux's comment made the tanned youth smile. "I'd appreciate the help. I'm a bit out of my depth at this point I feel." He admitted to the other candidates, rubbing the back of his head. "I wasn't holding out much hope for being searched, so to suddenly be here is a bit disorientating."

The abandoned mine might have been cool but there was something incredibly...close about it. It made Soleil glad that she was standing for dragon clutches and not wher clutches - she didn't think she would do very well if she had to spend most of her time underground. Not that she would tell anyone that, of course, or admit it if they figured it out.

She wasn't pushing herself all that hard - it was just a warm up, after all - so she could still hear all of the things the other candidates were talking about. The cavern acoustics helped with that as well. Raelero earned himself a sideways glance when he said he wasn't going to really participate, but she didn't say anything in response to the comment.

And then there was Vatyin. Vatyin, who was hanging back and making sure he wasn't in Mikal's line of sight. Stories about what Mikal had done to the Weyrwoman's son had swirled through the barracks. They hadn't surprised her, really, but something inside her chest twisted at seeing the way Vatyin was handling himself.

So, with a soft sigh, she slowed her pace until she was beside the younger candidate. Soleil didn't say a word, just kept her gaze focused forward and kept jogging, but she stuck with the boy nonetheless.

Kyrellah had tried to convince Risa to stay behind before heading down to the mines with the rest of the class. The green however would have none of it. Neither had been there before and the little firelizard was incredibly eager to see someplace new. At least the creature was willing to stay out of the way once the lesson began. A race, really? Okay, that didn't leave her thrilled. She wasn't lazy, but that certainly wasn't the choice she would have made for a way to get physically fit. There were plenty others here that were trimmer than she was, but she was comfortable with how she was built.

As she started to run the warm up laps her pace was slow. It was likely that she'd tire quicker than some of the rest but why start out that way? She listened to the rest of the candidates talking as they jogged. Unlike Raelero she had no plans of losing intentionally, she fully intended to follow the spirit of the lesson, even if it wasn't one she enjoyed. It was only a few minutes before the flit grew bored enough to pop out and go play with the rest in the sun. Satisfied that there would be no disturbance from that direction, it wasn't expected but one could never be too sure, she turned her attention fully to those around her as her feet carried her over the course.

She murmured a thanks to Jaros as he moved some loose stones as she got close enough for him to hear her.

When they had made their way down to the mines, Fae had been confused. But once it was explained what it was they were going to do, she had grinned in relief. She didn't mind physical exertion, but she did mind dying under the desert sun in an attempt at exercising. For Baru to bring them down in the abandoned mine was an excellent idea.

She'd warmed up thoroughly, knowing the dangers of not doing so. She'd only exercised once without a warmup, and after dealing with an aching calf muscle for two days, she'd never repeated the mistake. It was a lesson learned in her candidacy before she'd transferred, and it was one she would not make here.

A few candidates shot off ahead of her, but she was willing to let them go. This jog was still a warmup and she was not interested in tiring herself out before the actual race. There were others who appeared to just not care, and that was no good either. The one lad who seemed content to lazily almost-jog got a shake of the head from her, but that was all. It was on him if he didn't keep up with the rest of the class.

She came up beside Vatyin and saw that Soleil was on his other side. Like everyone else -or so she assumed- she'd heard what had happened between him and Mikal and it was obvious that he was trying to stay away from the other candidate. While the young woman hadn't given her so much as a sideways glance, Fae had the feeling that she felt the same way about the whole situation that she herself did.

"Vatyin, wasn't it?" She asked him as she kept pace with him and Soleil.

"Right!" Lorux grinned up at Jaros and nodded his approval again. "Always look out for your mates, true wherever you go in life right?" Especially people in tough or dangerous work like drudges, miners, or dragonriders; if you couldn't work in a team in Threadfall everyone was shaffed eight ways across the sevenday.

"Firelizards are pretty common here yeah and people are generous with their eggs and all, I expect you'll be able to get hold of one before too long if you fancy it! I ended up with four of them somehow." He'd never expected to own even one in his life let alone four of the little beggers. "I was a bit out of my depth too at first when I got here, it was a huge change from where I was before! A good one but still big, took getting used to the new routine and that." Expectations for a candidate were very different to those put on a drudge, he hadn't really done that well at adapting at first and sometimes he felt like he was sort of still learning it all. When you were a candidate your chores and that weren't just chores, they were a responsibility and mostly to do with helping riders. Much as it'd be nice to do the minimum, maybe catch a nap instead of stuffing firestone sacks, it had finally got through to him that he couldn't get away with- well no he could get away with it but he shouldn't try to. Sirocco was the best Weyr on Pern, he was sure of that much, but if everyone didn't do their bit to make it as shined and ship-shape as it could be on top of all the ideals and stuff it had the rest of the world could ignore that; he didn't want to be responsible for letting that happen.

"Well, its more that everyone should be watching out for each other regardless of who they are." He admitted, shrugging as they jogged along, the cool chill from the mines fading as his body warmed from the exercises. "I wouldn't mind trying to get one at some point, but I'm sure there are other people who deserve one first. I don't mind waiting my turn." He shrugged, not too worried. "You have four? Jeeze, any more and ya won't need a dragon. " He joked, smiling at the other male.

"Have you two been around here long then? Firelizards are a rarity in opal, so I guess it took a little while to amass that many." He asked, turning to the newcomer alongside. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I only arrived here last night, so I'm trying to get to know people. I'm Jaros. Its nice to meet you...?" He said, waiting for her to introduce herself. She seemed a bit quiet, but that didn't mean he should be impolite.

As her feet grew more familiar with the surface upon which they ran, it was almost an odd feeling that it wasn't sand underfoot, Veres paid more attention to those around her. Especially as Jana spoke to her. From everything she'd seen of the girl Jana was one that was always friendly and upbeat, something that may grow tiring after a while to the more serious type, such as the one she had spoken to. But even Veres could give it a shot, she certainly didn't wish to alienate any of her fellow candidates this early in.

"Not that I remember, but then the mind plays tricks on us when we look back. I'm sure we complained about it there too, dreamed about going somewhere less dry or just a bit cooler, and yet it was home and leaving was something you just couldn't ever do."

She'd spent almost her whole life in a desert and even though she'd been elsewhere she couldn't actually see herself living anywhere else. There were good memories back in Igen along with the bad. The other places felt more like ones you went for special occasions. That was why she had come south with so many others, it somehow seemed more familiar .

"Hopefully here will become the same."

She tried to remember where Jana was originally from but with how recently she had reached the appropriate age to join candidacy she hadn't done all her research on those that were already there yet. She knew some of those that had stood for previous hatchings by sight at least, she had been an attentive spectator at all that she could attend after all. It didn't hurt to ask, it would be good to at least try and make some friends and not to spend her entire time in the barracks by herself.

"Obviously you're not from the desert then, which part of the north did you call home before here?"

Oh, she supposed that Jaros didn't know her name, she hadn't seen him around before either. She hadn't wanted to make any assumptions though, just joining didn't mean he couldn't have come from the Weyr some did join later than the minimum age. If that was the case it wasn't impossible that he could have just gone unnoticed, unlikely yes with the way he was built but not impossible. The conversation on firelizards though poked that theory full of holes as he said Opal. It was only right then to offer her own name in return to his it wasn't as if it was a secret, it would be a poorly kept one if it was.

"I'm Kyrellah, unlike him I've only got the one recently acquired companion. I'm not sure I'd envy his four, just imagine what trouble that many of them could give you."

Him of course being Lorux, and she did know his set were fairly well behaved. Didn't mean she couldn't tease a bit even if given the right set or a lack of training it was quite true that four of them could cause a lot of mischief. She didn't want to put him off the idea of trying to get one though, it was nice to have someone especially after the rejection of not having impressed at the hatching. And no one ever knew if they'd need that.

"But they are helpful too, and if anyone can offer tips on training one."

It went without saying that Lorux was meant there as well. He clearly had experience in the matter. Not that everyone wanted help with that chore.

"Right, that too," Lorux agreed with a grin at Jaros; there wasn't anyone here he'd want to see break an ankle, maybe one or two he'd like to see plant their face in the dirt but not actually hurt themselves.

"And I know, my plan was to save up so many firelizards they can carry me into the air themselves," Lorux continued cheerfully, now including Kyrellah in his grin as well. "They're pretty good except when Lady's proddy, then they're a right handful." His green had never laid a clutch where he could find it but all in all that was probably for the best, if he'd found them he'd probably have felt like he ought to keep at least one and then where'd he be? Even more up to his neck in 'lizards, that was where.

"I've been here a while though yeah," Lorux nodded as they approached the start of the course again, "I came in five-eleven just in time for Iridith's clutch at the starve of five-twelve." Iridith, Chiroth, Rikeleth, Chiroth, and now Rikeleth looked like rising again. Would it be fifth time lucky for him or was he going to end up on his own again? Seemed like every time he found an egg he felt really close to but every time they chose somebody else. He was still young though, not nineteen yet - he still had time.

Soleil didn't so much as acknowledge Faelyn's presence, let alone the fact that the other candidate had spoken. Vatyin's smile had also gone unremarked on and unreturned. She wasn't there to make friends. She was there to participate in the lesson and make sure that no one tried to bully the much younger candidate.

What she really wanted to do was pick up her pace and take off on her own. Running with people gave the impression that you cared, that you'd formed a bond with that person, and that was the last thing Soleil wanted anyone to think she'd done. She didn't, though - she stuck by Vatyin and maintained her silence, figuring she could split away once they actually started running with the firestone sacks.

Jana huffed in understanding, and in wear as they rounded another lap. She looked at Baru to see how long their warm-up would last before the race began. Content that the candidatemasters wouldn't rush them into anything, Jana grinned at Veres.

"Home was Bright Lakes Hold, just a smallhold in Telgar so I'm used to the mild weather in the spring and summer, and cold weather in the fall and winter." Many joked that Telgar only had two seasons, the growing season and the frozen season, but Jana remembered it fondly just as Veres made it sound.

"Hopefully, after a time, I'll get used to the heat! And like you say, hopefully, it will be the same." Jana was optimistic, despite the way some of the others complained about Sirocco's heat. She did hope Sirocco could become her home. It had K'nel and Arumth and though she missed the rest of her family dearly, at least she had them.

"The dragons seem to love it!" The observation was meant to be just as optimistic as the last, but Jana found she was immediately jealous of the way the dragonkin seemed to love the heat and her tone was not without a little bit of a pout.

Thaddeus listened to the mostly friendly voices of his fellow candidates. He ran silently as he let the sounds and snippets of conversation wash over him, he had arrived only the day before, to new to have even met anyone and he knew himself to well to think about making the first move.

With a fleeting wry smile, he shook his head and wondered at both his luck and how a man so comfortable with his own company was doing training to be chosen by a dragon.

It still felt like a dream, the cool breezes of his home Hold still felt like they lingered in his hair, yet here he was, beneath the burning sands of Sirocco.

While you wouldn't tell from looking at him, a feeling of great joy as the reality of his new life settled in, he was going to be a dragon rider.

Jaros pondered the offer from Kyrellah. "I dunno.... I'm worried having a fire lizard might interfere with classes. Though I guess as they're similar to dragons it counts as preparation?" He shrugged, mulling the idea over. "They seem so social though, I'm not sure you can have just the one." He pointed out. Most of the ones he'd seen stayed in small groups of their own when not perched on a shoulder. "You guys think I should try?"

The small group rounded the corner, Jaros's eyes roaming over the other candidates, trying to see what he could learn just by looking as he listened to Lorux. "I missed the searching my hold had last year, So I guess I missed one or two clutches myself." He said, rather blandly. He'd never assumed he could be searched, so it hadn't bothered him in the slightest. "Nothing wrong with that, I'm sure you'd rather find the one that fits you rather than settle, right?" He asked, noticing Lorux sounded a little off about it.

"I'd say all the experiences you've had just mean you're turning into an even better rider for your future dragon. Meanwhile, I got no experience whatsoever. " He pointed out, trying to cheer the young man up.

As he found his natural rhythm, Thaddeus found himself next to a large candidate that he believes was called Jaros and another... he squinted as he tried to remember the name, he always tried to learn the names of those around him and some of their basic personality traits. Made it all the easier to know who to avoid. Lorux! That was it, easing his pace a bit a fell just behind Lorux, he hoped that the "warm-up" as the candidate masters had called it would end soon.

While fit there were limits!

The topic of conversation was interesting though. firelizards. He had gotten along well with the wild firelizards at that had populated his fathers' barn and he had to admit that he was missing the noisy, playful chirping that accompanied every firelizard.

Clearing his throat he hesitated then said, "They are noisy, but good company. Firelizards"

"Sure," Lourx nodded at Jaros, "and don't worry about them interfering or getting lonely; the candidatemasters are used to candidates getting them, and there's so many of them about that they're never short on company. Still," he grinned, "it is kind of nice having more than one, got to admit." It was useful to be able to set them to do stuff together that one couldn't do alone, and having a few firelizards cuddled up with you at night was nice too. Firelizards were no substitute for a dragon but they were as good company for people as they were for each other and they never failed to put a smile on your face with their antics.

When Thaddeus added his sixteenth mark to the conversation Lorux flashed a smile at him too. "Thaddeus, right?" He'd just arrived the previous day too, so Jaros wasn't alone in having to learn the ropes! "Yeah they can be, I know a couple that try to sing along every time they hear music - pretty funny but I wouldn't want it happening right in my ear."

Annnd yeah. He'd definitely learned a lot over the last two turns, and he liked to think he'd matured a lot too. It still stung - all the times he'd been left alone - and sometimes he worried that maybe there wasn't a dragon out there for him at all, but he would definitely make a better rider if he Impressed now than if he had when he'd just turned sixteen.

"And that right!" he nodded to Jaros. "It's no fun being passed over like that but the time I've spent here as a candidate's done me good for sure." He really hoped that this next clutch was his time but if it wasn't, it wasn't the end of the world. "And you've got time to get some experience before the next clutch," Lorux continued to Jaros. "Maybe we'll all find our dragons there, worth hoping for right?"

With the interaction with Mikal pretty much over, Rae picked up the pace only slightly. Moreso because he wanted to join in the conversation he'd heard up ahead. There were candidates he'd never met, and he needed to rectify that. And there was no better time than the present!

Rae caught up with the small group in no time and with one last burst of energy, threw himself on Lorux's back. "Shells, this is exhausting. Carry me, Lorux, before I collapse," he moaned dramatically. He let go of the young man then, and tried to keep up with them. "But seriously, this is beyond exhausting, and we haven't even started the real race yet, have we? M'legs are going to straight up fall off!"

He turned his characteristic crooked grin to Jaros and Thaddeus then. "Well hello there, children," he called to them mischievously. "Two little newbies, eh? How are we settling in?"
