There was something comforting to Finn about the structure that her days had begun to take. Ever since she had rushed the icy-looking egg from Erenveret's room and into the Hearth Room, she'd been careful to maintain a routine. Much of her days were spent in the mines here at Sirocco. She was slowly going to adjust to a nocturnal shift - hopefully by the time this little one was ready to break shell, she'd be on a night shift, and accustomed to it.

Whether she was in the mines or not that day, she was coming up often to tend to and check on the Energetic Egg, speaking with it, rotating it and touching it. Letting it get accustomed to the feel of her hands, her mind, the sound of her voice. She wasn't always the most talkative, but for the growing presence, she often made an exception. Even when she was just coming to rotate the egg, she made sure to talk to it. Sometimes, but only when she was alone in the room, she sang. Hers wasn't a bad voice, certainly. It lacked training. Her grandmother had often wanted her to apprentice to the Harpers. It was a good, steady type of apprenticeship. Suited for women before they married off. And now here she was.

Soft smile appearing as she walked in (finding the place blessedly empty), she started to tend to the egg, humming gently. "Hello there little one. I've got plenty of time to spend with you now." She murmured gently. It was the end of her day mining - her muscles were sore and she was tired, but nothing would stop her from spending time with this new member of her family.

For the first sevenday or so, there is no response from the egg, no matter how much Finn speaks, sings, or caresses its shell. And then, one day, she enters the Hearth Room and immediately feels like the air is somehow charged. As if she had been wearing thick woolen socks and dragging her feet across an equally thick woolen rug. It makes the hair of the back of her neck stand straight up, and there's a sense that, should she touch anything, a nasty shock awaits her for her troubles.

And yet, when Finn does touch something, no zap is forthcoming. But neither does the electric sort of sensation dissipate. Instead, it persists, lurking along the top of her skin; tingling at the tips of her fingers. And there, at the back of her mind, a sort of crackling sensation.

Had the sensation not been so strong, Finn would've likely chalked it up to the imaginings of a tired mind. But then, it wasn't really her mind that was tired. There had been nothing from the egg for some time - it had been worrying, in truth, though she wouldn't admit that. After all, Erenvesk and Erenveret had trusted her with the egg, so she would take care of it to the best of her abilities. So for it to suddenly start now, and so strongly...

"Faranth..." She uttered, voice soft as she tried to adjust to the electric feeling that coursed through her. She felt her hair standing on end, and opts to ground herself on the stone floor before she risks touching the egg. She hadn't thought that the presence would be so... well, present when it finally made itself known. "Not a lick of subtly about you, hm?" Her voice isn't disappointed - no, in fact Finn sounds amused.

"Remind me of Jassara when she was a little one. All energy. Well, don't wear yourself out on me, hm?" She was caring for it as she spoke, running her hands over it and making sure everything was just so.

Finn touches the egg, and for the faintest moment she might imagine that she can hear a very quiet, low-grade sort of hum from the mind within, but it immediately stutters and falls silent as she speaks to it. There is the sense that the egg is hanging on her every word, though the odds of the creature within actually understanding any of them are slim at best.

There, is, perhaps, a sense that the newly-made mind has a great many questions, but no way to ask them. Not yet, at least. But there is a kind of yearning there, and the tingle that dances across Finn's skin is indicator enough of the wherlet's interest in her. That slow, sizzling crackle continues for a time, and then suddenly starts to dwindle. The wherlet has, apparently, worn itself out just as Finn warned that it might.

It was odd, the feeling of that bright presence hanging off of her every word - it wasn't something she was used to. She wasn't generally talkative as a rule. She wasn't a storyteller or a talker. Didn't even particularly like the feeling she got when people were wholly focused on her. But this... she had to admit, from the little egg under her fingers, she didn't mind it so much.

She was curious, interested in the presence within the egg. She was looking forward to being able to actually meet the wher within. But she was patient. That was what the presence needed right now. A chuckle escaped her as she felt that crackling start to fade away, as if the growing wher within had fallen asleep. Moving the sand around it, she hummed. "Get some rest, little one. We've plenty of time to get to know each other." Her voice was soft and fond.

Indeed, Finn continued to visit as much as she could, even when the egg didn't necessarily need taken care of - often just sitting nearby and reading, or roughly carving a bit of wood for something to do with her hands.

Finlae

The days pass, and while that tingling, electric presence makes itself known again and again, at first that is all there is. Nothing that could be called a thought, exactly. Or even a true emotion. But undeniably a presence with a developing mind behind it. Moreover, it seems to actively recognize Finn, seeking out her mind when she enters the Hearth Room and avoiding contact with the minds of others.

On a day when Finn has come to sit and simply carve a little wooden figure with the egg for company, that tingling sensation immediately greets her, and as she settles herself in, Finn will definitely feel the wherlet's mind on her, hovering and crackling. But unlike its typical hover-and-watch technique, the Energetic Egg seems restless. It flits from one side of Finn's mind to the other. It behaves rather a lot like an over excited puppy, zipping aimlessly about.

And then, abruptly, it's attention focuses on Finn's hands, and for the first time, a garbled, rapid-fire series of discernable thoughts is launched at her. There are no words, and the wherlet seems incapable of ordering its thought process and ends up dumping all of them into Finn's head in the same moment, but a good general translation might be, "What is? What doing? Why? I do too?"

The wordless, electric presence had become something of a comfort to Finn. She still spoke with it every day, telling it about her day and her life - one would be forgiven for thinking she was a talkative person based purely on her interactions with the egg.

The feel of it moving, constantly zipping back and forth was new, but was more reassuring than anything. Activity was good. And she supposed, based on that electric crackle that came from it, she shouldn't have been surprised.

She had not, however, expected a sudden dump of (mostly) coherent thoughts. It surprised her enough that she had to stop her carving entirely, lest she cut herself. Once she had made sense of the rush of feelings and colors, Finn laughed lightly. "It's a block of wood. I'm carving it into a wher, like what you'll be when you're older. I don't know if you'll be able to carve when you grow, but we can certainly try if you'd like." She asked, resting her free hand against the egg after putting the knife away. "I'm not very good, I'm afraid. But it's good to try, to have something to do with my hands."

Block of wood, block of wood, the mind in the egg parrots back at her. It seems to be excitedly inspecting the thought, turning it over and over in both of their minds with a dizzying little twirl. Then it pauses a moment, the inspection of the thought momentarily on pause.

Is...is it a block of wood, too? Is that what Finn means? Is she creating it, bit by bit with the shiny-sharp?

There is a genuine laugh from Finn then, full and shamelessly loud. How best to phrase it? Faranth, but Erenvesk had chosen a smart one for her. "No, no. We don't use the knife on you. It would hurt. You're like..." She paused, grappling for words. She supposed it wasn't entirely necessary for her to grapple for her words. Or how best to phrase it. The presence within the egg could feel her, could hear her thoughts.

So it was thoughts that she sent next. She sent an image of a bird. Just an egg at first, and growing inside the egg until it busted through the shell. Then so small, so fluffy and growing larger and stronger with each passing day. No knives. Food. Energy and warmth. Her presence. To be fair, the comparison to a block wasn't wrong. But instead of things being shaved away, the block getting smaller and smaller, Energetic would get bigger and bigger. "Does that make sense?"

The wherlet within the egg seems to hang onto Finn's every word and thought, giving the potentially unsettling impression of a very large and inquisitive pair of eyes staring directly into her soul, though since the wherlet doesn't even know what eyes are yet, it's likely to be all in Finn's head. The wherlet also seems to be fidgeting restlessly inside of Finn's mind as she forms her explanation, like a child with entirely too much energy trying to pay attention.

Then she asks if that makes sense, and the wherlet seems to consider. It runs through her imagery again. Once, twice, three times in rapid succession. And then...

Yes! Wood gets smaller. Itself gets bigger. And itself is going to be very small and fluffy when it...

Wait, it's inside the egg?!

The feeling of eyes staring not just at her, but in her was not the most pleasant one. Finn wasn't Jassara, wasn't used to all the attention being on her - disliked all the attention being on her, in truth. But the feel of the mind against hers fidgeting brought her some semblance of amused comfort. It reminded her of the children back at Sapphire Hold.

And then it went over her imagery again, and for just a moment, Finn chokes on air. No, no it was not going to be small and fluffy! And this was why sometimes talking was better. Thoughts flowed. Words were weighed.

It seemed surprised to learn that it was in the egg. So, Finn sent an image of the egg shell it was currently in. "This is you right now. It keeps you safe while you grow, see? And you'll break through it eventually." As for what it looked like... She brought to mind some of the whers she had seen since coming to Sirocco... one of every color. Energetic would eventually look similar to that.
